Recently many Verizon customers got a text message that stated they were from Tonawanda Community Federal Credit Union. The text proceeded to say that their VISA Cards had been deactivated and in order to reactivate them they had to call the phone number listed. Upon calling this number they were asked to input their VISA Card number, their pin number, and social security number.
This was not a breach in the credit unions system, it was a breach in Verizon as most of the numbers texted were not members of the credit union. Verizon was informed of this breach.
The credit union would never send out a text message, nor would they call you to ask for this type of information. You should never give this information to anyone. You will never be asked for your pin number in any circumstance other than while making a transaction where it is keyed in. If this ever happens to you please inform the credit union.
Thank You Melinda Hedges / Manager

The Tonawanda Community Federal Credit Union is truly unique. We are a not-for-profit, member owned and operated financial institution whose main purpose is to satisfy the financial needs of our members. Our not-for-profit status allows us to return excess earnings to our members in the form of lower interest rates for loans, higher yields on investments and savings accounts, and new financial products and services.
Your credit union will celebrate 35 years of service in July 2011. We are now at 22 million dollars in assets with 6100 members.
All accounts at the
Tonawanda Community Federal Credit Union are insured to $250,000 by the
National
Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government Agency. You can trust that
your money is safe with us.
People come first at the Tonawanda Community Federal Credit Union. Our members and their families are our most important resource. That's why you can always expect the best possible financial products and services, plus the personal, confidential and courteous service you deserve. The credit union is a non-profit organization with all proceeds going back to the membership in the form of dividends. As a member of the credit union you are an owner.
